MAKE-ITSM Model

MAKE-IT ModelManaging the difficult processes of change takes a daily commitment to altering the behaviors of your employees and, in fact, your entire corporate culture. Even the best-intentioned program for change cannot succeed until patterns of behavior have changed.

CLG’s IMPACTSM Model lays the groundwork for determining and implementing desired behaviors among employees. The MAKE-ITSM Model applies this approach to organization-level improvements by focusing on issues such as leadership team alignment, development of an implementation and communications strategy, etc. The MAKE-IT Model organizes this strategy in four steps:

  • Make It Clear – First, senior leaders work to determine the business case for change and agree upon a strategic direction. Next, they identify their business priority and how they will measure its success. Once all the leaders have agreed on the business opportunities, targeted results and metrics, they are ready to move to the next step.
  • Make It Real - Your leaders then identify the pinpoints or appropriate behaviors to achieve the desired conduct. It is important at this stage to take the necessary time to uncover the specific behaviors that must be altered, to determine if the skills to achieve these changes exist and if the leaders can motivate employees to make the changes real.
  • Make It Happen – In this step, implementation of the new behaviors takes place. Key leaders must activate the right behaviors to begin the process, and consequate them to ensure they happen again. Positive feedback is extremely important to the success of this process. This step is rigorous and requires diligence in working personally with employees to incorporate new behaviors. It is complete when the behaviors of key performers and leaders improve and discretionary performance at all levels increases, along with the targeted results.
  • Make It Last – Here your company focuses on sustaining the change into the future. Make It Last transfers the new behaviors into the fabric of your organization, becoming the everyday standard of doing business. This stage embeds the approach and tools into your business planning, leadership development, strategic talent management, and whatever core processes drive your organization.

Application of the MAKE-IT Model to your business can pay attractive dividends by improving the effectiveness of your leaders, the rapid achievement of your targeted business results, and consistent execution of your strategic initiatives. Moreover, successful implementation of this model can have a positive influence on your evolving corporate culture.
